Push Hands – Phoenix Tai Chi London
Push hands is a series of partner drills that are designed to improve reactions, physical communication and body dynamics between two partners.
The focus is directed to improving players’ sensitivity to detect subtle changes in weight, movement and muscle tension and therefore sense the opponent’s intentions.
The players cooperate with each other, rather than opposing the movement of the partner. Training includes numerous hand and arm techniques, stepping and shifting.
Push Hands training is absolutely necessary for anyone interested in learning the martial art side of tai chi. It is only by being able to interact with another using tai chi principles that you will be able to use it in a self-defence situation.
